Set in the heart of the Chew Valley, Chew Magna Deanery is part of the Archdeaconry of Bath in the Church of England diocese of Bath & Wells. Although predominantly rural it also includes the urban centres of Keynsham and Saltford.
The Area Dean is the Rev. Ian Mills and the Lay Dean is Graham Sage.
The next Chew Magna Deanery Synod meeting will take place on Monday 22nd January 2024 7.30pm in Saltford Church Hall.
The Diocese of Bath and Wells has proposed a reduction in stipendiary clergy posts from 178 to 150 across the Diocese over a period of 5 years. This is due to financial constraints.
Chew Magna Deanery has been allotted 7 stipendiary posts (currently it is 9), and it is for the Deanery Mission and Pastoral Group to propose to the Deanery Synod how those posts are allocated, in close liaison with the Archdeacon of Bath.
The draft plan is available for discussion and is accessible via the link below along with linked supporting papers to provide some of the background.

Set out below are the new working arrangements for our Schools Chaplain.
Angela will be working one day a week (until July 2024) across seven primary schools (Cameley, Chew Stoke, Dundry, Winford, Ubley, East Harptree and Pensford). The focus of her work will be in leading collective worship and supporting Religious Education. Angela will be supported and supervised by Mike Haslam (Diocesan Chaplaincy Adviser) and the DMPG. During the next two years Angela and Mike will work together to develop teams to expand her schools work and continue it when she has retired.
